Procedure: In 100 ml of chloroform was dissolved 12.9 g of 2,3-diaminobutane and to the solution was added dropwise 10 ml of a chloroform solution containing 4.0 g of 5-isoquinolinesulfonyl chloride under cooling with ice. After the dropwise addition of the chloroform solution, the mixed solution was stirred at a temperature of 20° C. to 25° C. for two hours, and the reaction mixture solution was washed with water and dried with anhydrous sodium carbonate. The chloroform was distilled therefrom under reduced pressure, and the residue thus obtained was subjected to a column chromatography [silica gel: 160 g; solvent: chloroform] to give 3.92 g of N-(2-amino-1-methylpropyl)-5-isoquinolinesulfonamide in a yield of 80%. under cooling with ice the reaction mixture solution was washed with water dried with anhydrous sodium carbonate The chloroform was distilled under reduced pressure, and the residue thus obtained

Procedure: To a mixture of butane-2,3-diamine (4.8 g, 54.5 mmol) in water (50 mL) containing bromocresol green as indicator was slowly added a solution of methane sulfonic acid (10.46 g) in water (50 mL) until a blue to yellow color transition was observed. The mixture was diluted with ethanol (100 mL) and to it was added a solution of Cbz-Cl (7.61 g, 45.5 mmol) in DME (50 mL) and aqueous AcOK (w/v=50%) to maintain the pale-green color. The reaction mixture was stirred (RT, 1 h), concentrated under reduced pressure, treated with water and filtered. The solution was washed with toluene, basified with 40% aqueous NaOH and extracted with toluene (4×100 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford benzyl 3-aminobutan-2-ylcarbamate (4.2 g, 35%) as a colorless oil. Mass calculated for C12H18N2O2=222.28. found: [M−H]+=221.2. to maintain the pale-green color concentrated under reduced pressure treated with water filtered The solution was washed with toluene extracted with toluene (4×100 mL) The combined organic layers were washed with brine dried over MgSO4 filtered concentrated under reduced pressure

Procedure: 138.5 g (1.95 moles) of acetaldehyde cyanohydrin were added dropwise to a solution of 176 g (2 moles) of 2,3-diaminobutane in 250 ml of water, with cooling at 25° C. The mixture was then heated at the boil for 8 hours, until no more ammonia was split off. The reaction mixture was then distilled under reduced pressure to give 200 g (72% of theory) of 2,5,6-trimethyl-3-oxo-piperazine of boiling point 123° C./0.5 mbar. was split off The reaction mixture was then distilled under reduced pressure
