Procedure: 93 mg (0.5 mmol) of dodecanol purified by distillation, 0.39 g (0.6 mmol, 1.2 equivalents) of N,N-diethyl-α,α-difluoro-[4-(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl)benzyl]amine (compound c) produced in Example 1, and 0.5 ml of heptane were put into a container formed of PFA (tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer), and reacted in a nitrogen atmosphere at 100° C. for 3 hours. After the reaction, an aqueous saturated sodium hydrogencarbonate solution was added thereto for neutralization, and then the product was extracted out with dichloromethane. The solvent was evaporated away, followed by purification through silica gel column chromatography (solvent: dichloromethane/diethyl ether mixed solvent) to give a product. The main product was 1-fluorododecane, and its yield was 86%. reacted in a nitrogen atmosphere at 100° C. for 3 hours After the reaction for neutralization, and then the product was extracted out with dichloromethane The solvent was evaporated away followed by purification through silica gel column chromatography (solvent: dichloromethane/diethyl ether mixed solvent) to give a product

Procedure: ε-Caprolactone (170 g, 1.49 mole), glycolide (30 g, 0.26 mole), lauryl alcohol (1.37 g, 7.3×10-3 mole) and stannous octoate (0.052 g, 1.2×10-4 mole) were combined in a stirred reactor under nitrogen at 180° C. The mixture was stirred at 180° C. for 4.5 hours. The resulting polymer had an inherent viscosity of 0.68 dl/g (0.5 g/dl in CHCl3). The composition was determined by 1H NMR to be 85 wt. % ε-caprilactone and 15 wt. % glycolide.

Procedure: ε-Caprolactone (40 g, 0.35 mole), trimethylene carbonate (10 g. 0.098 mole), lauryl alcohol (1.42 g, 7.6×10-3 mole) and stannous chloride dihydrate (10.1 mg, 4.5×10-5 mole) were combined in a flask and heated for 24 hours under nitrogen at 135° C. The resulting polymer had an inherent viscosity of 0.42 dl/g (0.5 g/dl in HFAS). The composition was determined by 1H NMR to be 86 wt. % caprolactone and 14 wt. % trimethylene carbonate.

Procedure: ε-Caprolactone (8.0 g, 0.070 mole), trimethylene carbonate (2.0 g, 0.020 mole), lauryl alcohol (0.283 g, 1.52×10-3 mole) and stannous chloride dihydrate (2.02 mg, 8.91×10-6 mole) were combined in a flask. The flask was flushed with nitrogen, evacuated and sealed. The flask was heated at 135° C. for 24 hours. The resulting polymer had a composition, as measured by 1H NMR, of 86 wt. % ε-caprolactone and 14 wt. % trimethylene carbonate. The ηinh of the copolymer was 0.26 dl/g (0.5 g/dl in HFAS). The flask was flushed with nitrogen evacuated sealed

Procedure: The procedure in Example 1 was substantially repeated, except that 13.6 mL of 1-dodecanol instead of 4.00 mL of glycerol and 0.12 mL (40 pmol) instead of 0.10 mL of stannous octoate solution were used. The copolymer was dried under vacuum (0.1 mm Hg) at 110° C. for about 16 hours to remove any unreacted monomer. The copolymer had an inherent viscosity of 0.15 dL/g in HFIP at 25° C. The copolymer was viscous liquid at room temperature. The molar ratio of PCL/PLA was found to be 51.5/48.5 by proton NMR. The copolymer was dried under vacuum (0.1 mm Hg) at 110° C. for about 16 hours to remove any unreacted monomer at 25° C at room temperature
