Procedure: In 10 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide are dissolved 0.56 g of benzyl (S,S,S)-2-azabicyclo[3,3,0]octane-3-carboxylate.hydrochloride and 0.5 g of N-[(S)-5-(1-benzyloxycarbonyl-4-piperidyl)-1-ethoxycarbonylpentyl]-L-alanine.hydrochloride, and 0.3 g of triethylamine is added to the solution under ice-cooling with stirring, followed by addition of 0.5 ml of diethyl phosphorocyanidate. After stirring for 30 minutes, there is added to the mixture 0.1 g of triethylamine, followed by stirring for 30 minutes and at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture is diluted with 100 ml of water and extracted with 100 ml of ethyl acetate. The extract is washed with 5% aqueous phosphoric acid and water, successively, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure, and the residue is purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:acetone=3:1) to give 0.26 g of benzyl (S,S,S)-2-[N-[(S)-5-(1-benzyloxycarbonyl-4-piperidyl)-1-ethoxycarbonylpentyl]-L-alanyl]-2-azabicyclo[3,3,0]octane-3-carboxylate as a colorless oil. is added to the solution under ice- cooling After stirring for 30 minutes by stirring for 30 minutes and at room temperature for 1 hour extracted with 100 ml of ethyl acetate The extract is washed with 5% aqueous phosphoric acid and water successively, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate The solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure the residue is purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:acetone=3:1)
