Procedure: In a nitrogen stream, 8.0 g (200 mmol) of 60% oily sodium hydride was added to a solution of 18.90 g (100 mmol) of 5-chloroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine hydrochloride in 200 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide at 0° C., followed by stirring for 15 minutes. To this mixture, 20.44 g (100 mmol) of 4-hydroxy-1-t-butyldimethylsiloxybutane was added, followed by stirring room temperature for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and dried, after which the solvent was distilled off. The residue was purified by column chromatography (eluent: ethyl acetate) to yield 3.73 g (11.6%, orange oily substance) of the desired product. by stirring room temperature for 5 hours extracted with ethyl acetate The organic layer was washed with water dried after which the solvent was distilled off The residue was purified by column chromatography (eluent: ethyl acetate)

Procedure: A solution of 1,4-butanediol (10.54 g, 0.117 mol) in dry THF (100 mL) was treated with t-butyl dimethylsilylchloride (17.30 g, 0.114 mol) and imidazole (7.80 g, 0.114 mol). After 2 h at room temperature, work-up with ethyl acetate and water, followed by drying the organic phase and concentration, gave a crude product that was purified by silica gel flash chromatography (being eluted with 20% ethyl acetate in hexane) to yield 15.5 g (Y: 65%) of 4-(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-1-butanol (XXVIIa) as a colorless oil; 1H-NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz) δ ppm: 3.58 (m, 4H) 1.58 (m, 4H) 0.84 (s, 9H) 0.01 (s, 6H). by drying the organic phase and concentration gave a crude product that was purified by silica gel flash chromatography (being eluted with 20% ethyl acetate in hexane)

Procedure: To CH2Cl2 (150 mL) at −78° C. were added oxalyl chloride (6.83 g, 53.8 mmol) and dry DMSO (8.41 g, 108 mmol), dropwise. After 5 min, 4-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)butan-1-ol (10 g, 48.9 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (5 mL) was added dropwise. The mixture was stirred for an additional 30 min at −78° C., and Et3N (24.8 g, 245 mmol) was added. The mixture was then allowed to warm to room temperature over 30 min. After stirring for 3 hrs, 100 mL of water was added. The phases were separated, and the aqueous phase was extracted three times with 100 mL of diethyl ether. The combined organic phases were washed successively with 50 mL of aqueous 1% HCl, 50 mL of water, 50 mL of aqueous 5% NaHCO3 and 50 mL of saturated aqueous NaCl. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure, to provide the title compound. to warm to room temperature over 30 min After stirring for 3 hrs The phases were separated the aqueous phase was extracted three times with 100 mL of diethyl ether The combined organic phases were washed successively with 50 mL of aqueous 1% HCl, 50 mL of water, 50 mL of aqueous 5% NaHCO3 and 50 mL of saturated aqueous NaCl The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 the solvent was removed under reduced pressure
