Procedure: 155 g of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone and 80.0 g of butylamine were dissolved in 300 ml of methanol, and then 2.0 g of platinum oxide were added to the resulting solution, after which the solution was shaken under a pressure of 3 atmospheres of hydrogen in a medium-pressure hydrogenation apparatus at room temperature for 5 hours. At the end of this time, the platinum catalyst was filtered off, and the solvent was removed from the filtrate by distillation under reduced pressure, after which the residue was further purified by distillation under reduced pressure, to yield 201.5 g of the title compound as an oil boiling at 100° to 101° C./5 mmHg (667 Pa). At the end of this time, the platinum catalyst was filtered off the solvent was removed from the filtrate by distillation under reduced pressure after which the residue was further purified by distillation under reduced pressure

Procedure: A mixture of 155 g of triacetone amine, 113 g of diethylene triamine, and 2.5 g of conc. sulfuric acid in 2.5 liters of methanol is hydrogenated in the presence of 7 g of 5% palladium on carbon in the manner described in Example 1. In addition to yielding 1,7-bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-1,4,7-triazaheptane, distillation of the hydrogenation mixture yields at 115°-118° C./0.09 mm Hg 1-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-1,4,7-triazaheptane as main product. In addition to yielding 1,7-bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)-1,4,7-triazaheptane, distillation of the hydrogenation mixture

Procedure: After 1,047 parts of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone, 373 parts of hexamethylenediamine, 2,260 parts of methanol and 5.5 parts of 5% platinum-on-carbon catalyst were charged into an autoclave, the temperature of the mixture was gradually elevated from 30° C. and the mixture was subjected to hydrogenation at a hydrogen pressure of 5 kg/cm2 while the temperature was kept at 60°-70° C. It took 8 hours to complete the hydrogenation. The resultant mixture was filtered at about 50°-60° C. to remove the catalyst therefrom, and then the resultant filtrate was subjected to distillation to remove the solvent and the water formed as by-product during the reaction, thereby obtaining 1,325 parts of crude N,N'-bis (2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)hexamethylenediamine having a purity of 92.9%, a 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidone content of 0.8%, and an APHA value of 400. was gradually elevated from 30° C. was kept at 60°-70° C The resultant mixture was filtered at about 50°-60° C. to remove the catalyst the resultant filtrate was subjected to distillation to remove the solvent the water formed as by-product during the reaction
