Procedure: To a solution of 3-((R)-3-((S)-1-(4-bromophenyl)ethyl)-2-oxo-6-phenyl-1,3-oxazinan-6-yl)propyl methanesulfonate (234 mg, 0.24 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) was added NaH (82 mg, 3.4 mmol) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at rt for 30 min. Then N-methylacetamide (204 mg, 2.8 mmol) was added the above mixture. The formed mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 5 h. After the reaction was over, the reaction was quenched with water and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic phase was concentrated to give the crude product, which was purified by preparative TLC to give N-(3-((R)-3-((S)-1-(4-bromophenyl)ethyl)-2-oxo-6-phenyl-1,3-oxazinan-6-yl)propyl)-N-methylacetamide (150 mg, 68%). LC-MS Method 2 tR=1.50 min, m/z=497, 495, 475, 473. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ=1.41 (m, 1H), 1.48 (t, 3H), 1.73 (m, 1H), 1.83-1.95 (m, 2H), 2.01 (m, 3H), 2.1-2.3 (m, 3H), 2.71 (m, 1H), 2.81 (s, 3H), 3.1 (m, 1H), 3.2 (m, 1H), 5.5 (m, 1H), 6.72 (m, 2H), 7.10 (m, 2H), 7.20 (m, 2H), 7.37 (m, 3H). Procedure: To a vigorously stirred solution of 73.1 g (1.0 mole) N-methylacetamide dissolved in 1400 ml of dry triethylamine was added 196 g (1.30 mole) of t-butyldimethylsilyl chloride. The flask was purged with dry nitrogen and then equipped with a drying tube. Hard stirring of the mixture was continued for 24 hours at room temperature. Then, under a layer of dry air, the reaction mixture was filtered to remove the precipitate of triethylamine hydrochloride. The resulting filter cake was then washed three times with 150 ml each of dry triethylamine. The filtrate and washings were combined and reduced in volume by distillation at 35 degrees C. at 10 mm Hg. The remaining straw colored liquid was then fractionally distilled. Procedure: 860 μl (10 mmol) oxalyl chloride was slowly added to a solution of 731 mg (10 mmol) N-methyl-acetamide and 2.33 ml (20 mmol) 2,6-lutidine in 20 ml CH2Cl2 at 0° C. After 15 min 1.37 g (10 mmol) isonicotinic acid hydrazide was added in one portion. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h and the neutralized with NaHCO3(sat). The phases were separated and the water phase was extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were dried and concentrated. The residue was dissolve in 20 ml acetic acid and heated at 120° C. for 2 h. After cooling the solvent was removed. Flashchromatography (CH2Cl2/MeOH 10:1) afforded 765 mg (44%) of a grey/white solid. 1H NMR (CDCl3), d (ppm): 2.52 (s, 3 H) 3.66 (s, 3 H) 7.58 (d, 2 H) 8.76 (d, 2 H).
