Procedure: Dimethylacetamide dimethylacetal (1.56 g, 11.7 mmol) is added to a stirred solution of (2-thiocarbamoyl-ethyl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (1.0 g, 4.9 mmol) in DCM (50 ml). The reaction is stirred for 24 hours at room temperature followed by removal of the solvent. The residue is purified by chromatography on silica, eluting with ethyl acetate-diethyl ether (1:1) to give the titled compound as a yellow oil. followed by removal of the solvent The residue is purified by chromatography on silica eluting with ethyl acetate-diethyl ether (1:1)

Procedure: 2.00 g (9.50 mmol) tert.butyl N(3-amino-3-thioxopropyl)carbamate and 1.58 g (10.45 mmol) 1-bromo-2-butanone are refluxed in 40 ml of ethanol for 16 hours with stirring. The reaction mixture is evaporated down, the residue is purified by chromatography. The reaction mixture is evaporated down the residue is purified by chromatography

Procedure: A mixture of bromomethylketone (b) (2.07 g, 9 mmol), 1,1-dimethylethyl (3-amino-3-thioxopropyl)carbamate (1.84 g, 9 mmol) and sodium bicarbonate (0.76 g, 9 mmol) in ethanol (120 mL) was heated to reflux for 1 hour under argon. The mixture was evaporated and the residue partitioned between ethyl acetate and aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic extract was washed with brine, dried and evaporated.
