Procedure: Into a flask as specified in Example 1 were charged 529 g of triethyl orthopropionate, 402 g of trimethylol propane, 330 g of diethylene glycol dimethyl ether, and 0.9 g of PTSA. The mixture was heated for 0.5 hour at 140° C., with 402 g of ethanol being distilled off. The temperature was lowered to 100° C., and the remaining diethylene glycol dimethyl ether was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to vacuum distillation. The fraction having a boiling temperature of 54° C. at a pressure of 0.5 mbar yielded 370 g of clear, low-viscous liquid having a boiling point of 223° C. at atmospheric pressure and with the following structure Into a flask as specified in Example 1 distilled off was lowered to 100° C. the remaining diethylene glycol dimethyl ether was distilled off under reduced pressure The residue was subjected to vacuum distillation yielded 370 g of clear, low-viscous liquid

Procedure: Trimethylolpropane (TMP) used in the epoxy hardeners is a cheap, non-toxic, low melting point crystalline solid which is incompatible with diglycidylether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). TMP is presently used as a hardener for flexible polyurethanes. Clear solutions with DGEBA may be obtained by heating the mixture above the melting point of TMP, but the mixture becomes milky on cooling to room temperature and gross phase separation occurs on standing. TMP is unreactive with epoxy absent a suitable catalyst.

Procedure: Similar viscosities are obtained by initially heating the polyalcohols (a) to (d) with polyphosphoric acid (= phosphoric acid dehydrated above 200° C.), resulting once again in the formation of acid semi-esters and diester mixtures through cleavage of the anhydridic phosphorus-oxygen-phosphorus bond. These acid semi-ester and di-ester mixtures are mixed with the multicomponent mixture of 1 mol of ε-caprolactam, 1 mol of trimethylol propane and 1 mol of water.
