Procedure: A mixture of borane-tetrahydrofuran complex (1.2 M in THF, 5.81 ml) and 1-(4-iodophenyl)pyrrolidin-2-one (1.00 g) in THF (dry) (20 ml) was stirred at 70° C. under N2 for 3 hr. The mixture was poured into 1N HCl aq., sat. NaHCO3 aq. was added and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc. The mixture was stirred at 60° C. overnight. A mixture of NaH (60%, 4.11 g) in DMF (dry) (50 mL) was added to the mixture at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 120° C. overnight. The mixture was poured into water and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated, washed with brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo.
