Procedure: To a solution of 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-propanol (3.00 g, 19.7 mmol, 1 equiv) in DMF (100 ml) was added portion wise NaH (0.45 g, 18.8 mmol, 0.95 equiv) at rt, and the resulting mixture was stirred for 15 min. Iodoethane (1.37 ml, 20.0 mmol, 1 equiv) was added drop wise and the mixture was stirred for 2.5 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc.
