Procedure: The procedure described in Example 1 is repeated, except that 0.03125 mol of one of the bases tri-n-octylamine, tris-(2-ethylhexyl)-amine, ethyl-dicyclohexylamine, triethylamine, ethyl-diisopropylamine, N-methyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine, lithium acetate and trimethyl-benzylammonium acetate is used in place of 0.03125 mol of tri-n-butylamine. After working up as described in Example 1, ethyl cinnamate is obtained in comparably good yields.
