Procedure: To a solution of diethyl sulfoxide (0.47 g, 4.4 mmo) in dichloromethane at −60° C. under argon was added drop-wise trifluoroacetic anhydride (0.93 g, 4.4 mmol). The solution was stirred for 20 min at this temperature. Then the 4-(7-chloro-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-2-pyrimidin-2-yl-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazol-3-amine (0.76 g, 2 mmol) was added and the solution stirred at −60 C for 1 h. The reaction was diluted with aqueous ammonia; the organic layer was separated and further washed with water and then dried and concentrated. The residue was re-crystallized with a mixture of ethyl acetate and petrole ether to give the title compound (270 mg; 29%). the solution stirred at −60 C for 1 h the organic layer was separated further washed with water dried concentrated The residue was re-crystallized with a mixture of ethyl acetate and petrole ether

Procedure: A quantity of 0.38 g (8.0 mmole) of 50% sodium hydride oil dispersion was added slowly during 15 minutes to 20 ml of ethyl sulfoxide at room temperature. After completion of addition, the reaction mixture was heated at 45° for 30 minutes. It was cooled to 15° and a solution of 2.3 g (8.0 mmole) of 9-(4-pyridinylmethyl)thioxanthene in 10 ml of dimethylsulfoxide was added dropwise during 15 minutes at room temperature. After completion of addition, the reaction mixture was stirred 30 minutes at room temperature. Then a solution of 4-picolylchloride (8.75 mmole) in 5 ml of dimethylsulfoxide was added dropwise during 30 minutes at ambient temperature. The reaction was then heated at 40° for 30 minutes. The reaction was quenched by addition of water (50 ml). Trituration of the precipitated oil yielded a crystalline solid, which was filtered off, washed with water and dried. The tan solid was dissolved in benzene and decolorized by stirring with 1 g of Magnesol® for 30 minutes. Filtration and evaporation yielded a colorless product (2.0 g) which was recrystallized from ethylacetate, m.p., 201.4°-203.4°.
