Procedure: Table 6 summarizes the results obtained on fluorination of 4-t-butyl cyclohexanone with the aminosulfur trifluorides. All of the compositions examined except N-naphthyl-N-phenylaminosulfur trifluoride converted the ketone to a mixture of 4-t-butyl-difluorocyclohexane and 4-t-butyl-1-fluorocyclohexene, with the former predominating. The fluorination of this ketone was much slower than observed for the fluorination of cyclooctanol. A complete conversion to the fluorinated products required several days at room temperature in CH2Cl2. However, addition of a catalytic amount of HF (generated in-situ from EtOH) accelerated the rate of reaction considerably. The reaction time was reduced from several days to ˜16 h when the diaryl, arylalkyl, and N-methoxyethyl-N-phenylaminosulfur trifluorides were reacted with 4-t-butylcyclohexanone in the presence of HF. The effect of HF on reaction rate was, however, less pronounced with the alkoxyalkyl aminosulfur trifluorides 37 and 41. A reasonable reaction time (40 h) for complete fluorination of the ketone with bis(methoxyethyl-aminosulfur trifluoride (41) was obtained when the reaction was carried out at 40° C. several days at room temperature the rate of reaction considerably The reaction time was reduced from several days to ˜16 h The effect of HF on reaction rate

Procedure: Into a 100 ml reaction flask equipped with reflux condenser, thermometer, hot plate, spin bar and heating mantle are placed 12.8 grams of cyclooctanol; 22 grams of 2-mercaptopropionic acid and 0.5 grams of paratoluene sulfonic acid. The reaction mass is heated to reflux and maintained at reflux for a period of 10 hours. At the end of the reaction mass, the reaction product is washed with one 25 ml volume of water and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The reaction mass is then distilled on a micro distillation column yielding the compound having the structure: ##STR99## Into a 100 ml reaction flask equipped with reflux condenser heating mantle The reaction mass is heated to reflux maintained at reflux for a period of 10 hours At the end of the reaction mass, the reaction product is washed with one 25 ml volume of water dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate The reaction mass is then distilled on a micro distillation column yielding the compound

Procedure: 18.9 gm of methyl chloroformate were added drop-by-drop under agitation to a solution of 25.6 gm of cyclooctanol and 15.8 gm of absolute pyridine in 150 ml of dry benzene under external cooling at 0° to 5° C. After the methyl chloroformate had been added, agitation was continued for 12 hours at room temperature. Then, the benzene phase was drawn off from the precipitated pyridine hydrochloride, and washed with diluted hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution and water, and dried. After the solvent had been distilled off, the raw ester was distilled in vacuo by means of a Vigreux column. A colorless liquid was obtained which had a herbal, very natural and complex fragrance which is distinguished by a strong and long-clinging flowery jasmine scent. under external cooling at 0° to 5° C washed with diluted hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide solution and water dried After the solvent had been distilled off the raw ester was distilled in vacuo by means of a Vigreux column A colorless liquid was obtained which
