Procedure: To a solution of 0.30 g of 2,6-dichloro-4-(3,3-dichloro-2-propenyloxy)phenol, 0.24 g of 3-(4-bromophenoxy)-1-propanol and 0.27 g of triphenylphosphine dissolved in 10 ml of tetrahydrofuran was added dropwise a solution of 0.21 g of diisopropylazodicarboxylate dissolved in 5 ml of tetrahydrofuran, while stirring at room temperature. After stirring at room temperature for 24 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated to obtain a residue. The residue was subjected to silica gel chromatography, which afforded 0.34 g of 3,5-dichloro-1-(3,3-dichloro-2-propenyloxy)-4-(3-(4-bromophenoxy) propyloxy)benzene (65% yield), nD25.0 1.5917. After stirring at room temperature for 24 hours the reaction mixture was concentrated to obtain a residue

Procedure: To a solution of 4-bromophenol (10 g, 58 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added 3-bromopropan-1-ol (9.6 g, 69 mmol) and potassium carbonate (13.6 g, 98 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 h. LCMS showed the reaction was almost complete. The mixture was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate (20 mL×3), The combined organics were dried and concentrated to give the title compound that was used in the next step without further purification (14.7 g, quant). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.36 (d, 2H), 6.84 (d, 2H), 4.05 (t, 2H), 3.72 (t, 2H), 1.96 (m, 2H). The mixture was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate (20 mL×3) The combined organics were dried concentrated

Procedure: To a dry 100 mL round bottom flask under nitrogen was added 3-(4-bromophenoxy)propan-1-ol (9.0 g, 39.0 mmol), tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (7.0 g, 47.0 mmol), imidizole (3.2 g, 47.0 mmol), and 20 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide. The reaction was allowed to stir at room temperature while being monitored by thin layer chromatography. Upon disappearance of the starting material the reaction mixture was poured into a separatory funnel containing 50 mL of cold water. The product was extracted using 3×25 mL ether. The organic layers were combined and washed with 3×25 mL cold water and 3×25 mL saturated sodium chloride solution. The resulting organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered from drying agent, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The material was purified by filtering through a plug of silica gel eluting with 4:6 dichloromethane:hexane. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure (12.1 g, 89.4%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.34 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 2H), 6.76 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 2H), 4.00 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 3.76 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 1.95 (q, J=6.0 Hz, 2H), 0.87 (s, 9H), 0.03 (s, 6H).
