Procedure: 13.5 Grams of octadecylamine, 6.4 g of ethyl oxamate and 200 ml of ethanol were charged in a flask equipped with a stirrer, a condenser and a calcium chloride drying tube and refluxed with heating for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and the precipitated crystal was filtered off under reduced pressure and was recrystallized from ethanol to obtain 12.8 g of the desired product. m.p. 169° C. equipped with a stirrer, a condenser and a calcium chloride drying tube refluxed with heating for 1 hour the precipitated crystal was filtered off under reduced pressure was recrystallized from ethanol

Procedure: The filtrate was transferred back to the 250 ml 3-neck flask and another 30.5 g of ethyl oxamate was added. An additional 39 g of 4-amino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine were added over 7 minutes as the temperature slowly rose to 28° C. The reaction was stirred 3 hours and filtered. After air drying overnight, the filter cake weighed 50.0 g and had a melting point of 198°-200° C. slowly rose to 28° C filtered After air drying overnight

Procedure: To a 0° C. solution of 3-fluoro-4-[6-methoxy-7-(1-methyl-piperidin-4-ylmethoxy)-quinolin-4-yloxy]-phenylamine (66 mg, 0.13 mmol) and Et3N (0.34 mL) in CH2Cl2 (6 mL) was added slowly ethyl oxalyl chloride (98 mg). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 30 min, then diluted with CH2Cl2 and washed with sat. aqueous NaHCO3. After dried over MgSO4 and concentrated, the crude ethyl oxamate was reacted with phenethylamine (80 mg, 0.64 mmol) at 80° C. for 2 h. Procedure: Sodium methoxide (5.4 g., 0.1 mole) and 4-(p-methoxybenzyl)thiosemicarbazide (2.1 g., 0.1 mole) were stirred in methanol (200 ml.) for a period of five minutes. Ethyl oxamate (11.7 g., 0.1 mole) was then added to the mixture and the resulting mixture was refluxed for a period of three hours. At this point, most of the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, water (200 ml.) was added to the residue and the pH adjusted to 2.0 with dilute hydrochloric acid. The resulting solid was then filtered and subsequently dried in vacuo at 50° C. to yield pure 1-oxamoyl-4-(p-methoxybenzyl)-3-thiosemicarbazide (25.7 g., 91% yield), m.p. 185°-190° C. the resulting mixture was refluxed for a period of three hours At this point, most of the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, water (200 ml.) was added to the residue The resulting solid was then filtered subsequently dried in vacuo at 50° C.
