Procedure: To a solution of 5g (17.7mmol) of 1-n-dodecylazacycloheptan-2-one in 150ml of benzene was added 4.18g (9.4mmol) of phosphorus pentasulfide and the mixture was refluxed for 1 hr. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was filtered and the solid was washed with chloroform and ethanol. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was subjected to flash chromatography, (silica; (95:5)V/V hexane/ethyl acetate) to give 2.11g (40%) of 1-n-dodecylazacycloheptane-2-thione. the mixture was refluxed for 1 hr the mixture was filtered the solid was washed with chloroform and ethanol The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo

Procedure: 56.2g (0.2 mol) of 1-dodecylazacycloheptan-2-one in 100ml diethyl ether was added dropwise to a suspension of 7.6g (0.2 mol) lithium aluminum hydride in 100ml diethyl ether under argon at room temperature. After 5 hours of stirring, 20ml saturated sodium sulfate was added dropwise. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was dried with magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The resulting oil was distilled (130°/0.03 mm) to yield 50.03g (93.5%) of 1-n-dodecylazacycloheptane. The mixture was filtered the filtrate was dried with magnesium sulfate filtered concentrated The resulting oil was distilled (130°/0.03 mm)

Procedure: To a cold solution of 107 g (0.38 mol) of 1-dodecylazacycloheptan-2-one, in CHCl3 was added 159.7 g (0.77 mol) of PCl5, keeping the temperature between 1°-4° C. After 2 hours, a solution of 123.3 g (0.77 mol) of bromine in CHCl3 was added, and the mixture was stirred for 18 hours at room temperature. After removing the solvent and excess bromine by vacuum distillation, the residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2, washed with sat. Na2S2O5, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give a crude oil. Purification by flash chromatography (silica gel; 1:1 ether/petroleum ether V/V) gave pure product. between 1°-4° C After removing the solvent and excess bromine by vacuum distillation the residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2 washed with sat. Procedure: 3.1 g (0.05 mol) of sodium oxide (Na2O) are suspended in 150 ml of 1,2-dimethoxyethane, and then 18.5 g (0.1 mol) of N-trimethylsilylcaprolactam are added. The reaction mixture is stirred at 50° C. for two hours, during which the voluminous precipitate of the sodium salt of the caprolactam forms. Then 24.9 g (0.1 mol) of n-dodecyl bromide are added, and the mixture is stirred and heated under reflux for 20 hours. The working-up is carried out as indicated in Example 1. heated under reflux for 20 hours
