Procedure: A solution of 151 g of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate in 3200 ml of methylene chloride was stirred under argon at room temperature for 3.5 hours after the addition of 106.6 g of 6-chloro-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindole-1-one. The mixture was then treated within 40 minutes with 1.28 1 of saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, the organic phase was separated and washed with 1.28 1 of water. After drying over sodium sulphate the organic phase was filtered and evaporated. The residue was taken up in 1.3 1 of diethyl ether, whereupon it was stirred at room temperature for about 30 minutes. After removing insoluble material by filtration the filtrate was evaporated. There was obtained 110.5 g of 1-ethoxy-6-chloro-3H-isoindole with a m.p. of 64°-66°. the organic phase was separated washed with 1.28 1 of water After drying over sodium sulphate the organic phase was filtered evaporated After removing insoluble material by filtration the filtrate was evaporated

Procedure: 0.4 mmol 6-chloro-1-isoindolinone (CAS: 58083-59-3) was dissolved in 3 nml of pyridine. 0.05 mmol of 4-dimethylaminopyridine was added, followed by slow addition of a solution of 0.5 mmol 2-isopropoxy-5-methanesulfonyl-benzoyl chloride (prepared from example B1 and oxalyl chloride in dichloromethane) in 2 ml dichloromethane at room temperature. The reaction mixture is stirred for 10 minutes at room temperature, then the dichloromethane is stripped off in the rotatory evaporator. The remaining solution was then refluxed for 3 hours. The dark red solution was quenched with water, acidified by addition of diluted hydrochloric acid and extracted 3 times with ethyl acetate. The organic phase is dried and concentrated. Chromatography (silica gel; ethyl acetate/heptane) gave the title compound as a slightly yellowish solid. Yield=55%. MS (m/e): 408.2 [M+H]+, 100%). the dichloromethane is stripped off in the rotatory evaporator The remaining solution was then refluxed for 3 hours The dark red solution was quenched with water acidified by addition of diluted hydrochloric acid extracted 3 times with ethyl acetate The organic phase is dried concentrated
