Procedure: 4.54 g (0.03 mole) of 4-phenyl-thiosemicarbazide and 6.70 g (0.03 mole) of 2,4-dichlorophenacyl chloride are reacted in 200 ml of methanol using the conditions of Example 2. Recrystallization of the solid is from methanol/ethyl acetate, yielding 6.5 g of 5-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-phenyl-6H-1,3,4-thiadiazin-2-amine monohydrochloride. m.p. 186° C. The solid was subsequently dried under high vacuum at 65° C. Recrystallization of the solid

Procedure: A mixture of 4-chlorobutyrophenone (6.7 mL, 42 mmol) and 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (7.0 g, 42 mmol) in 500 mL of ethanol was warmed under a nitrogen atmosphere to dissolve all the solids and then the reaction stirred at room temperature for four days. The solid formed was collected by filtration and dried under reduced pressure to give 8.73 g of a white solid. Recrystallization of the solid from ethanol gave 7.99 g (57%) of the title compound as a white solid, mp 107-109° C. was warmed under a nitrogen atmosphere to dissolve all the solids The solid formed was collected by filtration dried under reduced pressure

Procedure: 50 g of 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide is suspended in 300 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 0.5 ml of concentrated HCl is added. Then 40.4 g of 3-chloroacetyl acetone is allowed to run in all at once and the whole is cooled with an ice-bath. After 12 hours' stirring, the precipitate formed is suction filtered, washed with acetone and then boiled in a water/acetone mixture (1:1). This hot solution is filtered off from the sulfur and neutralized with aqueous ammonia solution. The product is then suction filtered and recrystallized from acetone; m.p. 246°-247° C. is cooled with an ice-bath the precipitate formed filtered washed with acetone This hot solution is filtered off from the sulfur and neutralized with aqueous ammonia solution suction filtered recrystallized from acetone

Procedure: 35.7 g of isopropyl 2-chloroacetate is added to a suspension of 33.5 g of 4-phenylthiosemicarbazide in 150 ml of tetrahydrofuran. After the mixture has been stirred for 30 minutes it is boiled for a further 30 minutes and then allowed to cool. The precipitated solid is isolated by suction filtering, washed with acetone and the residue is heated in a water/acetone mixture (1:1). After the separated sulfur has been poured off, the whole is allowed to cool and is neutralized with aqueous NaHCO3, solution and the precipitated solid is isolated; m.p. 138°-139° C.
