Procedure: A 225-mL Hastelloy™ nickel alloy tube was charged with 134.0 g (0.30 mol) of perfluorohexyl iodide, cooled to −80° C. and evacuated, then warmed to 22° C. and pressured to 380 psi (2.72 mPa) with hydrogen (0.17 mol). Heating to 300° C. was accompanied by at least three temperature spikes, the first beginning at 240° C. The pressure at 300° C. began at 990 psi (6.93 mPa) and dropped to 860 psi (6.03 mPa) within 2 hours. When cooled to 25° C., the reactor showed zero pressure on the gauge. Distillation of the liquid product afforded 77.9 g (81%) of pure 1H-perfluorohexane (Boiling Point 70.6-71.2° C.), confirmed by GC and NMR. evacuated warmed to 22° C. Heating to 300° C. at 240° C at 300° C. dropped to 860 psi (6.03 mPa) within 2 hours When cooled to 25° C. Distillation of the liquid product

Procedure: 44.6 g. of C6F13I and 12 g. of ethyl carbonate are dissolved in 30 ml. of DMSO and added slowly to a dispersion of 18 g. of zinc-copper couple in 40 ml. of DMSO. At the end of the addition, which lasts 3 hours, the reaction mixture is centrifuged and by decanting a yellow liquid is obtained and identified by comparison of NMR and infrared spectra with that of a sample of C6F13COOC2H5 prepared by esterification of the acid, C6F13COOH, obtained by reaction of C6F13I and of CO2. At the end of the addition, which by decanting a yellow liquid is obtained

Procedure: Into a 1 l four-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, a distillation apparatus-equipped reflux condenser, a dropping funnel and a thermometer, 400 cc of isopropyl alcohol (the water content in the isopropyl alcohol being not higher than 50 ppm, the same is true in the following Examples), and 84.2 g (0.75 mol) of potassium tertbutoxide were charged. The reactor was heated to bring the internal temperature to 60° C. Then, 223 g (0.5 mol) of C6F13I was dropwise added thereto over a period of two hours. After completion of the dropwise addition, heating and refluxing were continued for one hour. The conversion at that time was 100%. A fraction with a boiling point of up to 75° C. was recovered by distillation from the reactor and further washed five times with 200 g of water, to obtain 151 g of C6F13H having a purity of 99.8%. In the reactor, no formation of tar was observed. Into a 1 l four-necked flask equipped with a stirrer a distillation apparatus-equipped reflux condenser, a dropping funnel were charged The reactor was heated to 60° C After completion of the dropwise addition heating refluxing were continued for one hour A fraction with a boiling point of up to 75° C. was recovered by distillation from the reactor further washed five times with 200 g of water
