Procedure: A mixture of 5-fluoro-2,6-dichloropyrimidine (1.0 g, 6 mmol, 2.0 eq.), N-methyl-2-methylamino-benzamide (0.5 g, 3 mmol), and potassium carbonate (0.85 g, 6 mmol, 2.0 eq.) was stirred in DMF (100 mL) for 24 h. The solvent was removed under high vacuum and the residue was purified on silica gel with DCM/MeOH (9.5/0.5) to give 2-[(2-chloro-5-fluoro-pyrimidin-4-yl)-methyl-amino]-N-methyl-benzamide (230 mg, 26%): 1H NMR (300 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.93 (dd, 1H), 7.73 (dd, 1H), 7.6 (m, 3H), 3.09 (s, 3H), 2.97 (s, 3H). The solvent was removed under high vacuum the residue was purified on silica gel with DCM/MeOH (9.5/0.5)

Procedure: A solution of N-methylisatoic anhydride (5 g, 28 mmol) in THF (100 mL) was treated with methylamine (THF solution, 2.0 M, 60 mL). The mixture was stirred for 18 h and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate (100 ml) and water (50 ml). The organic layer was washed once with brine (30 ml), dried over sodium sulfate, and concentrated to give N-methyl-2-methylamino-benzamide (5 g, 30 mmol): 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.3 (m, 2H), 6.67 (d, 1H), 6.58 (t, 1H), 2.96 (d, 3H), 2.86 (d, 3H); MS (m/e) 165 (M+1). the solvent was evaporated The residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate (100 ml) and water (50 ml) The organic layer was washed once with brine (30 ml) dried over sodium sulfate concentrated
