Procedure: 3-(2-Methoxyphenyl)propionic acid (8.3 g, 46.2 mmol) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (20 mL), and 4-chlorophenoxyethylamine (10.3 g, 60.0 mmol) was added dropwise thereto at room temperature. Subsequently, a solution (10 mL) of WSC•HCl (11.5 g, 60.0 mmol) in methylene chloride was slowly added dropwise thereto under ice-cooling, followed by stirring overnight. Under ice cooling, diluted hydrochloric acid was added dropwise thereto, followed by extraction with chloroform. The organic layer was washed with brine, and the resultant mixture was subjected to drying over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentration under reduced pressure, and purification by silica gel chromatography (chloroform/methanol=20/1), whereby the target compound was obtained (12.8 g, 83%). at room temperature under ice-cooling followed by extraction with chloroform The organic layer was washed with brine to drying over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentration under reduced pressure, and purification by silica gel chromatography (chloroform/methanol=20/1), whereby the target compound was obtained (12.8 g, 83%)

Procedure: A solution of 0.6 g (3.5 mmol) of [(4-chloro-phenyl)oxy]ethylamine (Chim. Ther. 1973, 8, 259-270) and 1.3 g (5.8 mmol) of ethyl [(phenyloxy-carbonyl)oxy]acetate, prepared in Step 1.1., in 30 ml of toluene is heated at 60° C. overnight. It is evaporated to dryness and the product is purified by chromatography on silica gel, eluting with a 30/70 mixture of ethyl acetate and cyclohexane. This gives 0.7 g of oily product, containing ˜10% of cyclized oxazolidine dione product, used as it is in the following step. Procedure: A solution of 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (0.095 g) in methylene chloride (5 ml) was added to a stirred mixture of 3-(3,4-dimethoxybenzamido)-4-methylbenzoic acid (0.157 g), 2-(4-chlorophenoxy)ethylamine (C. Chim. Ther., 1973, 8, 259; 0.086 g), 4-dimethylaminopyridine (0.007 g), 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (0.074 g) and methylene chloride (5 ml). The resultant mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 16 hours. The mixture was evaporated and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic phase was washed with an aqueous citric acid solution, dried over magnesium sulphate and evaporated. There was thus obtained the title compound as a solid (0.158 g); Mass Spectrum: M+H+ 469. The mixture was evaporated the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate The organic phase was washed with an aqueous citric acid solution dried over magnesium sulphate evaporated
