Procedure: 1-Ethyl-5-oxo-proline (0.050 g, 0.32 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous dichloromethane (˜7 ml) and dimethylformamide (1 ml) and to this was added 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (0.052 g, 0.38 mmol), [(2,3,4-trifluorophenyl)methyl]amine (0.103 g, 0.64 mmol), N-ethyl morpholine (0.151 ml, 0.95 mmol) and N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (0.073 g, 0.38 mmol). The mixture was shaken at room temperature over the weekend. A further aliquot of [(2,3,4-trifluorophenyl)methyl]amine (0.051 g, 0.32 mmol) was added to the mixture and stirring continued for a while longer until HPLC indicated that no further product was forming. The mixture was diluted with 2M aqueous hydrogen chloride (5 ml) and then filtered through a phase separator. The organic layer was then washed with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate and again filtered through a phase separator. The organic layer was then evaporated to give the crude product. The crude material was purified by mass-directed automated HPLC to give pure 1-ethyl-5-oxo-N-[(2,3,4-trifluorophenyl)methyl]-prolinamide (0.032 g). stirring was forming filtered through a phase separator The organic layer was then washed with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate again filtered through a phase separator The organic layer was then evaporated to give the crude product The crude material was purified
