Procedure: Anhydrous aluminum chloride (84 g, 0.486 mol) is suspended in methylene chloride (1200 mL), and then acetyl chloride (49.2 g, 0.629 mol) is added while stirring and cooling on ice. The mixture is stirred for 20 minutes while cooling on ice and 4-bromophenol (98 g, 0.57 mol) is added. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 h, and then ice water is added and extraction is performed with ethyl acetate. The organic layer is washed with brine and then dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure, the residue is purified by silica gel column chromatography to yield acetic acid 4-bromo-phenyl ester (104 g, 85%). cooling on ice The mixture is stirred for 20 minutes is added The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 h extraction The organic layer is washed with brine dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate After distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure the residue is purified by silica gel column chromatography

Procedure: To the suspension of anhydrous aluminum chloride (84.0 g, 0.49 mol) in methylene chloride (1200 mL) was add acetyl chloride (49.2 g, 0.63 mol) while stirring and cooling on ice. The mixture was stirred for 20 minutes while cooling on ice followed by addition of 4-bromophenol (98 g, 0.57 mol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h and then ice water was added. The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure, the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to yield 4-bromophenyl acetate (104.0 g, 85%). 1H-NMR (CDCl3): 2.28 (s, 3 H), 6.98 (d, 2 H), 7.48 (d, 2 H). cooling on ice The mixture was stirred for 20 minutes while cooling on ice The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 h The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate The combined organic layers were washed with brine dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate After distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography

Procedure: To a solution of 10.0 g (57.8 mmol) of 4-bromophenol in 100 mL of acetonitrile was added 9.6 g (69.5 mmol) of potassium carbonate. A white slurry was obtained to which was added 8.6 mL (121.0 mmol) of acetyl chloride and the resultant reaction mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 17.5 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, washed with ethyl acetate and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to a yellow oil. Purification by flash chromatography (silica, 10% ethyl acetate in hexane) gave the title compound as a clear, nearly colorless oil. A white slurry was obtained to which the resultant reaction mixture The reaction mixture was filtered washed with ethyl acetate the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to a yellow oil Purification by flash chromatography (silica, 10% ethyl acetate in hexane)
