Procedure: MCPBA (826 mg, 3.83 mmol) was added portionwise to an ice-cold solution of 2-chloro-1-allylbenzene (487 mg, 3.19 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (20 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. Aqueous 10% Na2CO3 solution (10 mL) and CH2Cl2 (100 mL) were added. The solution was successively washed with aqueous 10% Na2S2O3 (2×40 mL) and brine (40 mL), dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (hexane:EtOAc, 8:2) to give the title compound (512 mg, 95% yield).
