Procedure: To a solution of MeOH (60 mL) containing 2-amino-6-fluoro-benzaldehyde (1.19 g, 8.6 mmol) and methyl cyanoacetate (0.91 mL, 10.3 mmol) was added sodium methoxide (2.93 mL, 12.8 mmol, 25% in MeOH). The mixture was stirred at rt for 16 hrs. The resulting yellow precipitates were filtered, washed with MeOH and then stirred in 1N HCl (75 mL) for 2 hrs at rt. The solid was filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo to yield 5-fluoro-2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-quinoline-3-carbonitrile (1.2 g) as a white solid. MS [M+H]+: 189.1; tR=2.00 min. (method 1) The resulting yellow precipitates were filtered washed with MeOH stirred in 1N HCl (75 mL) for 2 hrs at rt The solid was filtered washed with water dried in vacuo

Procedure: To (2-amino-6-fluoro-phenyl)-methanol (2.49 g, 17.3 mmol) in dichloromethane (30 mL) was added MnO2 (3.01 g, 34.7 mmol, activated). The mixture was refluxed for 3 hrs and then filtered over celite. The mixture was concentrated and purified via silica gel flash chromatography (eluting with 30% ethyl acetate in hexane) to give 2-amino-6-fluoro-benzaldehyde as a yellow solid (1.23 g). tR=2.20 min. (method 1) The mixture was refluxed for 3 hrs filtered over celite The mixture was concentrated purified via silica gel flash chromatography (eluting with 30% ethyl acetate in hexane)

Procedure: 1.37 g (9.85 mmol) 2-amino-6-fluoro-benzaldehyde are combined with 20 ml acetic anhydride and heated to 70° C. for 4 h. Then the reaction mixture is stirred into 200 ml dist. water, adjusted to pH 7 with Na2CO3 and extracted three times with 50 ml of ethyl acetate. Then the organic phase is dried with MgSO4, the solvent is eliminated in vacuo. The crude product is purified by column chromatography. The carrier material used is silica gel and the eluant used is a mixture of cyclohexane:ethyl acetate (80:20). extracted three times with 50 ml of ethyl acetate Then the organic phase is dried with MgSO4 The crude product is purified by column chromatography a mixture of cyclohexane:ethyl acetate (80:20)
