Procedure: Cyclohexanecarboxaldehyde (38 g), diethylamine hydrochloride (55 g) and acetic acid (29 ml) are dissolved in methylene chloride (500 ml) and thereto is added triacetoxy sodium borohydride (71.8 g) at room temperature and the mixture is stirred at room temperature overnight. To the reaction solution are added a 2N-aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and methylene chloride, and the mixture is separated, and the organic layer is washed with a saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and the mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure to give cyclohexylmethyl-ethyl-amine (40.1 g) as a crude product. MS (m/z): 142 [M+H]+ the mixture is separated the organic layer is washed with a saturated brine dried over magnesium sulfate the mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure

Procedure: A suspension of 2-chloro-7-fluoroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde (200 mg, 0.95 mmol), N-(cyclohexylmethyl)-N-ethylamine (140 mg, 0.99 mmol) and potassium carbonate (140 mg, 1.0 mmol) in toluene (3 mL) is stirred and refluxed for 14 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to room temperature and then diluted with water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer is washed with 1N HCl, brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The crude product is purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 2-[N-(cyclohexylmethyl)-N-ethylamino]-7-fluoroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde. refluxed for 14 hours The organic layer is washed with 1N HCl, brine dried over magnesium sulfate filtered concentrated The crude product is purified by silica gel column chromatography
