Procedure: To a 250 mL round bottom flask equipped with a thermocouple, heating mantle, nitrogen inlet/outlet, a condenser and a stir bar was added 2-oxazolidinone (6.72 g, 77.2 mmole), 2-nonylphenol (10.0 g, 45.4 mmole), potassium hydroxide (255 mg, 4.5 mmole) and ExxonMobil™ Aromatic 100 solvent (70 mL). The resulting mixture was heated to reflux temperature for 3 h. Reaction progress was monitored by TLC and 1H NMR. The reaction mixture was then cooled, filtered over Celite® and the solvent were evaporated under reduced pressure. The crude material was purified using flash column chromatography to give the amine. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ 7.26-7.12 (m, 2H), 6.88-6.81 (m, 2H), 3.87 (dd. 2H, J=5.8, 5.8 Hz), 2.86 (dd, 2H, J=5.8, 5.8 Hz), 1.75-0.42 (m, 19H). Procedure: A blend of 25 mole % acrylic acid and 75 mole % ammonium acrylate was polymerised by the same general technique as in Example 1 except that the dispersion stabiliser mixture was formed of 75% by weight of a 2:1 molar copolymer of ceto stearyl methacrylate to methacrylic acid and 25% by weight sorbitan monooleate and the aqueous phase contained 0.4722 mole % of monomers based on weight of aqueous phase, 0.795×10-4 mole % of penta sodium diethylenetriamine pentaacetate based on weight of aqueous phase, 5.13×10-2 mole % of mono-sodium phosphate dihydrate based on weight of aqueous phase, 21.76×10-3 mole % of cross-linking agent (methylene-bisacrylamide) based on moles of monomers and 9.2×10-3 mole % of azobisamidinopropane hydrochloride based on moles of monomers. The dispersion obtained upon polymerisation and distillation was rendered water dispersible by adding 7.3% by weight on weight of final oil phase a phosphoric acid ester of a 5 mole ethoxylate of tridecanol and 7.3% by weight on weight of final oil phase of a 7 mole ethoxylate of nonyl phenol. was formed of 75% by weight of a 2 The dispersion obtained upon polymerisation and distillation

Procedure: 41 g of anhydrous barium hydroxide was slowly added to 300 g of methyl cellosolve and dissolved therein. Next, 11 g of oleic acid and a mixture of 10 g of nonyl phenol with 36 g of an alkylbenzene solvent were added thereto followed by stirring for approximately 30 minutes. Then the mixture was allowed to react while blowing carbon dioxide into the reaction system and the temperature was slowly elevated to 150° C. while removing the water thus formed. After dehydrating and removing the methyl cellosolve under reduced pressure, overbased barium oleate/carbonate (Ba=32%, metal ratio=12) was obtained as a brown viscous product. dissolved were added to react was slowly elevated to 150° C. while removing the water thus formed removing the methyl cellosolve under reduced pressure

Procedure: Resorcinol and nonyl phenol are reacted with formaldehyde in the presence of a catalytic amount of hexamethylenetetramine at a total phenol:formaldehyde molar ratio of 1.7:1 to afford a novolak cocondensate resin (97 mole % resorcinol/3 mole % nonylphenol). The solid resin is washed to remove formaldehyde odor. The wet resin is dried under vacuum. The dry resin is dispersed in water with sodium caseinate at 40% N.V. to afford Emulsion A.

Procedure: A chloroprene/methyl methacrylate graft copolymer was prepared as follows. A mixture of 80 parts chloroprene, 20 parts methyl methacrylate, and 0.2 parts n-dodecylmercaptan was emulsified with 110 parts water, 5 parts 60% triethanolammonium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, 1 part nonyl phenol condensed with 10 moles of ethylene oxide, 0.3 parts sodium sulfite, and 0.24 parts potassium hydroxide. Polymerization was initiated at 15° C. by addition of potassium persulfate and the temperature was maintained until the specific gravity of the emulsion reached 1.060 B which represented a conversion of 75%. The temperature of the emulsion was then raised to 48° C. and polymerization continued until no further specific gravity increase was observed. The conversion was greater than 99% and a shortstopping agent, phenothiazine, was added. The solids content of the emulsion was 47.0%. Polymerization the temperature was maintained until the specific gravity of the emulsion polymerization increase
