Procedure: Then, 1.1 g (6.4 mmol) of 2,6-difluoro-4-hydroxybenzo-nitrile, 0.8 ml of pyridine, and 2 ml of toluene were mixed. To this mixture, was added dropwise 3 ml of toluene solution containing 6.4 mmol of 2-fluoro-4-(2-(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl)ethyl)benzoyl chloride at room temperature in 5 minutes. After the dropping was finished, they were reacted at 50° C. for 2 hours. After finishing of the reaction, 10 ml of water was added to the reaction product, and then extracted with 30 ml of toluene. The organic layer thus obtained was washed with 6N-hydrochloric acid thrice, 2N-sodium hydroxide thrice, and water thrice, and then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Solvent was distilled off at a reduced pressure, and the residue was subjected to a silica gel column chromatography (eluent: toluene) to obtain 2.8 g of a crude 3,5-difluoro-4-cyanophenyl 2-fluoro-4-(2-(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl)ethyl)benzoate. This product was recrystallized from a mixed solvent of heptane/ether to obtain 2.4 g of (yield: 81.6%) the subject compound. they were reacted at 50° C. for 2 hours was added to the reaction product extracted with 30 ml of toluene The organic layer thus obtained was washed with 6N-hydrochloric acid thrice, 2N-sodium hydroxide thrice, and water thrice dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate Solvent was distilled off at a reduced pressure

Procedure: A stirred, homogeneous mixture of finely powdered, compound 27 (17.0 g, 0.10 mol), aluminium chloride (29.4 g, 0.22 mol) and sodium chloride (7.1 g, 0.12 mol) was heated to 180° C. over 25 min and then at 180° C. for 1 h (glc and tlc analyses both revealed a complete reaction). Ice-water was added, and the product was extracted into ether (twice). The combined ethereal extracts were washed with water, and the product was extracted into 10% sodium hydroxide (twice) and the combined basic extracts were acidified with 36% hydrochloric acid.
