Procedure: This example illustrates a synthesis of N-(11,10-Oxidoundecyl)glutarimide (inventive compound no. 1611). Sodium hydride (95%) (168 mg, 7 mmol) was added to a solution of glutarimide (565.6 mg, 5 mmol) in dimethyl sulfoxide (15 mL). After 20 minutes of stirring, 1-bromundec-10-ene (1.165 g, 5 mmol) was added and stirred for 12 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was then poured into a separatory funnel containing 100 mL of water and extracted with dichlormethane (5×75 mL). The organic extracts were combined, washed with water (50 mL) and brine (50 mL), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product obtained was further purified by flash chromatography over silica gel using 20% ethyl acetate/hexane eluant to yield 0.777 g (58.6% yield) N-(10-Undecenyl)glutarimide (inventive compound no. 1610). stirred for 12 hours at room temperature The reaction mixture was then poured into a separatory funnel extracted with dichlormethane (5×75 mL) washed with water (50 mL) and brine (50 mL) dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate concentrated under reduced pressure The crude product obtained was further purified by flash chromatography over silica gel using 20% ethyl acetate/hexane eluant

Procedure: To a solution of glutarimide (136 mg, 1.2 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (2 mL) was added, at 0° C., sodium hydride (60% liquid paraffin dispersion, 44 mg, 1.1 mmol), and the mixture was stirred for 5 minutes. To this mixture was added (3aR*,10aS*)-9-benzyl-4-(bromoacetyl)-2,3,3a,4,9,10a-hexahydrobenzo[b]-cyclopenta[e][1,4]diazepin-10(1H)-one (413 mg, 1 mmol), and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at room temperature. The reaction mixture was poured into a saturated aqueous solution of ammonium chloride (4 mL), which was subjected to extraction twice with chloroform. Organic layers were combined, washed with water and dried over magnesium sulfate, which was subjected to filtration, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The concentrate was crystallized from ethyl acetate-diethyl ether to give 305 mg (yield 68%) of the titled compound, m.p. 220°-221° C. was subjected to extraction twice with chloroform washed with water dried over magnesium sulfate, which was subjected to filtration the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure The concentrate was crystallized from ethyl acetate-diethyl ether

Procedure: To a solution of N-(4'-chloro-2'-fluoro-5'-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)glutarimide (1.64 g, 5.05 mmol, Compound 19) in about 20 ml of methylene chloride was added via syringe nearly 2.5 eq. of pyridine (1 ml) which had been freshly distilled from CaH2. Then a solution of benzenesulfonyl chloride (0.64 ml, 5.0 mmol) in 4.5 ml of methylene chloride was slowly added dropwise to the reaction mixture with ice bath cooling. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 12 hours. Then there was added 0.17 g of additional glutarimide and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for an additional 12 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into 50 ml of water and the layers were separated. The organic layer was evaporated in vacuo and the residue was dried in the vacuum oven (20-50 Torr, 50° C.). The resulting brown solid was rinsed with approximately 5 ml of methylene chloride and suction filtered to yield 1.9 g (82% yield) of the desired product as an off-white powder (m.p. 214°-215° C.). had been freshly distilled from CaH2 cooling the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for an additional 12 hours the layers were separated The organic layer was evaporated in vacuo the residue was dried in the vacuum oven (20-50 Torr, 50° C.) The resulting brown solid was rinsed with approximately 5 ml of methylene chloride and suction filtered

Procedure: A mixture of NaH (0.224 g, 7.48 mmol) and DMF (10 mL) was treated slowly with 2,6-piperidinedione (0.846 g, 7.48 mmol) at room temperature. After the addition was complete, the mixture was cooled to 0° C. and a solution of 3-[3-[[1-[2-(1-methylethoxy)phenyl]-4-piperazinyl]methyl]benzyl chloride (2.46 g, 7.12 mmol) and DMF (10 mL) was added dropwise. The cooling bath was removed and the reaction was stirred at room temperature overnight. A small portion of water was added and the reaction was concentrated under vacuum. The residue was partitioned between CH2Cl2 /water and the organic layer was separated, dried, and evaporated to give 1-[[3-[[1-[2-(1-methylethoxy)phenyl]- 4-piperazinyl]methyl]phenyl]methyl]-piperidine-2,6-dione as an oil, 3.25 g. This material was dissolved in i-PrOH (13 mL) and treated with maleic acid (0.83 g, 7.15 mmol). Trituration with ether, filtration, and drying afforded 1-[[3-[[1-[2-(1-methylethoxy)phenyl]-4-piperazinyl]methyl]phenyl]methyl]-piperidine-2,6-dione (Z)-2-butenedioate (1:1) as a white solid (2.73 g, 70%), m.p. 103°-105° C. 1H NMR and mass spectral analysis supported the assigned structure. After the addition The cooling bath was removed A small portion of water was added the reaction was concentrated under vacuum The residue was partitioned between CH2Cl2 /water the organic layer was separated dried evaporated
