Procedure: 24.9 g of trimethyl(trifluoromethyl)silane, 16.0 g of 2-heptanone, 38 g of tetrahydrofuran and 350 mg of tetrabutylammonium fluoride trihydrate were charged into a four-necked flask equipped with a nitrogen feeding tube, a reflux condenser, a dropping funnel and a thermometer, and a reaction was effected by a conventional method. Then, 17.5 g of hydrochloric acid was dropwise added to the reaction mixture at a temperature of 25 to 48° C. over 30 minutes, followed by stirring at about 48° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was treated by a conventional method, and the resulting organic phase was washed with a saline solution, followed by drying with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Thereafter, the resultant was concentrated under reduced pressure, thereby obtaining 26.4 g of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-methyl-2-heptanol in the form of a pale brown oily matter. equipped with a nitrogen feeding tube, a reflux condenser, a dropping funnel The reaction mixture was treated by a conventional method the resulting organic phase was washed with a saline solution by drying with anhydrous magnesium sulfate Thereafter, the resultant was concentrated under reduced pressure

Procedure: A mixture of aniline (100 parts), 2-heptanone (220 parts), 4-toluene sulphonic acid (6 parts) and 3% palladium on carbon (5 parts) in a 1 litre autoclave was charged with hydrogen to a pressure of 80 atmospheres and heated at 150° C. for 40 hours. The cooled reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, filtered, washed with 1N-hydrochloric acid (6×200 parts) and water (2×200 parts), the ethyl acetate was separated and dried (MgSO4) before evaporating to leave N-(1-methylhexyl)aniline (76 parts, 37%). The cooled reaction mixture filtered washed with 1N-hydrochloric acid (6×200 parts) and water (2×200 parts) the ethyl acetate was separated dried (MgSO4) before evaporating

Procedure: 70 ml of water are added to a solution of 90 g (0.64 mol) of 4-chlorobenzaldehyde and 68.5 g (0.6 mol) of 2-heptanone in 300 ml of ethanol and directly thereafter a solution of 1.7 g of sodium hydroxide in 17 ml of water is added. The mixture is initially stirred for 1 hour at room temperature, then 0.6 g of solid sodium hydroxide is added and the mixture is stirred for a further 64 hours. The precipitated product is filtered off with suction, washed with 1 liter of water, pressed out on a clay plate and then dried in vacuo for 16 hours over phosphorus pentoxide. 135 g (95.1% of theory) of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-octen-3-one are obtained in the form of a pale yellow solid of melting point 44°-47° C. the mixture is stirred for a further 64 hours The precipitated product is filtered off with suction washed with 1 liter of water dried in vacuo for 16 hours over phosphorus pentoxide

Procedure: e. 2,5-Dimethyl-3,6-dibutyl-pyrazine was prepared by first forming 3-oximino-2-heptanone by reacting 2-heptanone with nitrosyl chloride according to the method of BOUVEAULT, Bull. [3] 31, 1163 (1904). The autocondensation of two moles of the imino-ketone in the presence of zinc and acetic acid [according to the method described in Chimia 11, 310 (1957)] yielded 2,5-dimethyl-3,6-dibutyl-pyrazine which had a b.p. of 18°C./0.002 mm. Procedure: The title compound was prepared following the procedure described in (N. Di Bello et al., Synthesis, 1978, 227. To a solution of bicycle[4.1.0]heptan-2-one (13.8 g, 125 mmol) in acetonitrile (300 mL) was added pyridine hydrochloride (43.3 g, 375 mmol) which had been triturated with Et2O and dried under high vacuum. The solution was stirred under N2 at 82° C., overnight. The reaction mixture was partially concentrated, poured into brine (200 mL) and extracted with Et2O (4×100 mL). The ether extracts were combined, washed with brine (100 mL), dried and concentrated. The residual oil was purified on a Biotage flash chromatography system (15% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to yield the title compound (13.4 g, 91 mmol, 73.1% yield) as an oil. Procedure: 4.7 g of sodium metal was dissolved in 92 ml of ethanol. A mixture of 20 g of 2-heptanone and 26 g of diethyl oxalate was dropwise added thereto at 0° C. After the removing the ice bath, the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. After evaporation of the reaction mixture, 200 ml of water was added to the resulting syrup, and then an aqueous 10% hydrochloric acid was added with ice-cooling, the pH being adjusted to 1. After extraction with benzene (300 ml×3), the organic layer was washed with 100 ml of water, dried with Glauber's salt (Na2SO4). And concentrated to give ethyl hexanoylpyruvate as a liquid (38 g). was dropwise added at 0° C After evaporation of the reaction mixture, 200 ml of water was added to the resulting syrup an aqueous 10% hydrochloric acid was added with ice- cooling After extraction with benzene (300 ml×3) the organic layer was washed with 100 ml of water dried with Glauber's salt (Na2SO4) And concentrated
