Procedure: A solution of 169 mg (0.48 mmol) of benzyl [(1S)-4-[(tert -butoxycarbonyl)amino]-1-(hydroxymethyl)butyl]carbamate (Example Z4) in 50 ml of ethanol is hydrogenated after the addition of 17 mg of palladium on activated carbon (10%) under atmospheric pressure at RT for 4 h. The mixture is filtered through kieselguhr, and the residue is washed with ethanol. The filtrate is evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The product is reacted without further purification.
