Procedure: The charge consists of 450 ml. water and 150 g. of the copolymer plus surfactant and, in some cases, sodium chloride as indicated. Sodium behenate and sodium myristate are prepared by neutralization of the corresponding acids with sodium hydroxide. Sodium stearate employed is U.S.P. grade.

Procedure: Cadmium nitrate (5 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous methanol (50 mL). A sodium-myristate solution was prepared by dissolving sodium hydroxide (15 mmol) and myristic acid (15 mmol) in anhydrous methanol (500 mL). Then the cadmium-nitrate solution was added dropwise (one drop per second) into the sodium-myristate solution with vigorous stirring. The resulting white precipitate was washed with methanol three times, and then dried at ˜60° C. under vacuum overnight. Procedure: Melt Myristic acid at 65° C. Separately heat water, sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride at 80° C. When at temperature, add to Myristic acid to form sodium Myristate, mix gently until reacted. Add surfactants (Cocoamidopropyl Betaine and Sodium Lauryl Sarcosinate) and mix until dissolved. Add glycerine and SDBAC & mix for 10 minutes. Add petrolatum and mix at low speed to avoid shearing into small particle size. Allow to cool & set. Re-melt temperature is around 70° C. at 65° C at 80° C

Procedure: A solution of cadmium nitrate in methanol was added to a solution of sodium myristate, also in methanol. To obtain high quality cadmium myristate, the sodium myristate solution was heated to about 90° C. until all of the particles are dissolved. Afterward, the cadmium nitrate solution was injected slowly, drop-wise, and the reaction was allowed to take place. The temperature was then reduced to room temperature where the cadmium myristate powder began to precipitate below 65° C. The powder was then collected, filtered, and dried in a box oven. The dried cake was then crushed to produce fine particles of cadmium myristate.
