Procedure: To a solution of 2,2-dimethyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran (4.0 g, 36 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 mL) was added 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (18.4 g, 107 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was then diluted with dichloromethane, and washed with saturated aqueous sodium sulfite and brine. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (5.0 g, crude) as a yellow oil, which was directly used in the next step without further purification. washed with saturated aqueous sodium sulfite and brine The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate filtered concentrated under reduced pressure
