Procedure: A mixture of 4.57 g (70.2 mmol) of potassium cyanide and 10 ml of water is heated to reflux. When the potassium cyanide has dissolved, 17 g (54 mmol) of the chloride obtained in Step b dissolved in 10 ml of ethanol are added slowly. When the addition is complete, the mixture is heated under reflux for 3 hours. After evaporation of the solvent, the mixture is taken up in chloroform and washed with water until the pH is neutral. The chloroform phase is dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and evaporated off. The resulting residue is crystallised from hexane and yields 13.2 g of white crystals. is heated to reflux are added slowly When the addition the mixture is heated under reflux for 3 hours After evaporation of the solvent washed with water until the pH The chloroform phase is dried over magnesium sulfate filtered evaporated off The resulting residue is crystallised from hexane
