Procedure: Benzylamine (2.95 g, 27.5 mmol) was added to a mixture of cyclobutylacetaldehyde (30.6 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (˜238 mL) and molecular sieves (5.0 g) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5.5 hours. The mixture was filtered over Celite and the solvent was removed under vacuum to yield 5.45 g of crude N-(2-cyclobutylethylidene)-1-phenylmethanamine. The mixture was filtered over Celite the solvent was removed under vacuum
