Procedure: As described for Example 9, a mixture of 0.377 g (1 mmol) of 5-(4-aminobenzoyl)-6,11-dihydro-5H-dibenz[b,e]azepine, 0.295 g of 2-methoxy-4-chlorobenzoyl chloride, and 0.15 g of triethylamine in 10 ml of dichloromethane is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. An additional 0.148 g of 2-methoxy-4-chlorobenzoyl chloride and 75 mg of triethylamine is added and the mixture stirred overnight. The solution is worked-up as for Example 9 to give 0.38 g of product (crystallized from dichloromethane-hexane) m.p. 237°-239° C. the mixture stirred overnight

Procedure: A solution of the 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid (0.24 g, 1.3 mmol) in 7 mL of SOCl2 was warmed to reflux and was allowed to stir for 2 hours. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude material was diluted with 5 mL of toluene and concentrated under reduced pressure. This dilution with toluene and concentration was repeated two additional times to give the crude title compound which was used without additional purification or characterization. to reflux concentrated under reduced pressure The crude material was diluted with 5 mL of toluene concentrated under reduced pressure This dilution with toluene and concentration

Procedure: In a manner analogous to that described in Example 2, from 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoyl chloride and 4,4-dimethyl-6,7-diamino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolin-2one (see Example 13 a)), after column chromatography, there was obtained a yield of 58% of theory of the title compound; m.p. 300 -303° C.

Procedure: A solution of 2.0 g of 4-chloro-o-anisic acid in 22 ml of thionyl chloride is heated at reflux for 1 hour. The volatiles are evaporated in vacuo to give a residue which is concentrated from toluene three times and dried under vacuum to give 2.0 g of the desired product as a residue. at reflux for 1 hour The volatiles are evaporated in vacuo to give a residue which is concentrated from toluene three times dried under vacuum

Procedure: Into a solution of 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid (125 mg, 0.67 mmol, 1.2 eq.) in benzene (1.5 mL), SOCl2 (1.5 mL) was added at room temperature and the resulting solution was refluxed for 2 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum to generate 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoyl chloride which was used directly in the next step without purification. A solution of 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoyl chloride in DCM (2 mL) was added to a slurry of AlCl3 (96 mg, 1.3 eq.) in DCM (2.5 mL) at 0° C. and then a solution of (e) (150 mg, 0.56 mmol, 1.0 equiv) in DCM (1.5 mL) was added dropwise. The resulting solution was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred overnight. A saturated solution of NaHCO3 (10 mL) and DCM (10 mL) was then added and the resulting mixture was stirred for 1 h, and then filtered though Celite®. The mixture was extracted with DCM (2×10 mL), the organic layer was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and purified by flash column chromatography (hexanes:EtOAc) to afford 172 mg of (h) as a white solid, 70% yield. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 9.83 (s, 1H), 7.22-7.14 (m, 2H), 7.12 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.04 (t, J=3.0 Hz, 1H), 6.95-6.88 (m, 2H), 6.73-6.63 (m, 3H), 6.31 (dd, J=4.0, 1.7 Hz, 1H), 6.27 (t, J=2.8 Hz, 1H), 5.83 (dd, J=4.0, 2.6 Hz, 1H), 3.77 (s, 3H), 3.69 (s, 3H). the resulting solution was refluxed for 2 h The reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum was used directly in the next step without purification the resulting mixture was stirred for 1 h filtered though Celite® The mixture was extracted with DCM (2×10 mL) the organic layer was dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 purified by flash column chromatography (hexanes:EtOAc)
