Procedure: A solution of 25.5 g of p-iodobenzylhydrazine in 100 ml of ethanol was added dropwise, under nitrogen, to a solution of 16.2 g of β-amino-β-ethoxyacrylic acid ethyl ester and 1 g of p-toluenesulphonic acid in 250 ml of ethanol. After stirring overnight, the solvent was distilled off in vacuo and the compound identified above was obtained as a residue and recrystallised from ethanol. Melting point: 158°, 15 g (47%). the solvent was distilled off in vacuo above was obtained as a residue recrystallised from ethanol
