Procedure: A solution of 1-(2-fluorophenyl)ethanone (20 g, 145 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (250 ml) was treated under an inert atmosphere at room temperature with (R)-(+)-tert-butylsulfinamide (21.1 g, 174 mmol) followed by the addition of titanium(IV)ethoxide (66.1 g, 290 mmol). The solution was stirred at 50° C. for 15 hours. For the workup, the dark brown solution was cooled to room temperature, then poured into a saturated solution of ammonium chloride. After addition of ethyl acetate, the mixture was stirred vigorously for 15 minutes. After separation of the layers, the aqueous phase was extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed twice with water, dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated at reduced pressure. Purification of the crude product by chromatography on silica gel using a 4:1-mixture of cyclohexane and ethyl acetate yielded the (R)-E-N(1-(2-fluorophenyl)ethylidene)-2-methylpropane-sulfinamide (25.9 g, 74% of theory) as a brown oil. MS (ISP): m/z=242.3 [M+H]+. After 2 minutes 2-amino-1-[4-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy)-piperidin-1-yl]-ethanone hydrochloride (125 mg, 0.37 mmol) (prepared according to Step 1 and 5 of the General Scheme) was added to the reaction mixture and stirring was continued at ambient temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with cold water, extracted with ethyl acetate, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by washing with methanol to afford the 40 mg (34% Yield) of 5-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-isoxazole-3-carboxylic acid {2-oxo-2-[4-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenoxy)-piperidin-1-yl]-ethyl}-amide.
