Procedure: To a 100-mL three-necked flask, 3.41 g of 2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dithiane, which had been synthesized in accordance with the method known in the art (see Tetrahedron Letters, 41, 5653-5657 (2000)) using 2-carboethoxy-1,3-dithiane as a starting material, and 2.3 g of triethyl amine were added, and to this mixture 40 mL of dried methylene chloride were added and the resulting mixture was stirred with a stirrer bar coated with Teflon™ at 0° C. under nitrogen atmosphere.
