Procedure: 4-Fluorophenylacetyl chloride (0.290 mL, 2.44 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of β-(5-methyl-2-furanyl)ethanamine (300 mg, 2.44 mmol, made according to the procedure of Yur'ev et al. J. Gen. Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.) 33, 3444-8 (1963)) in THF (2.5 mL) at rt, followed by the dropwise addition of Et3N (0.340 mL, 2.44 mmol). Once the starting material was consumed, as was evident by HPLC, the reaction was quenched with H2O and extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with a gradient of 0-50% EtOAc/hexane gave 523 mg (95%) of compound 237A as a white solid. HPLC: 99% at 2.84 min (retention time) (Phenomenex-prime S5-C18 column 4.6×50 mm eluting with 10-90% aqueous methanol over 4 minutes containing 0.2% phosphoric acid, 4 mL/min, monitoring at 220 nm). MS (ES): m/z 248.15 [M+H]+. Once the starting material was consumed the reaction was quenched with H2O extracted with CH2Cl2 The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4 concentrated under reduced pressure Purification by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with a gradient of 0-50% EtOAc/hexane

Procedure: To a solution of the amine C (1 mol) in CH2Cl2 (approx. 10 ml per 1 g of the starting compound) triethylamine (1.1 mol) and acetic anhydride (1.2 mol) were added. The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 h and concentrated on rotary evaporator. The residue is triturated with hexane, filtered, washed with hexane to give a crystalline compound in good yields. concentrated on rotary evaporator The residue is triturated with hexane filtered washed with hexane to give a crystalline compound in good yields
