Procedure: Copolymers of beta-hydroxybutyrate and beta-hydroxyvalerate containing 30 mole percent beta-hydroxyvalerate were prepared by repeating the process of Example II with the exception that the dry racemic beta-butyrolactone employed was replaced by a mixture containing 30 mole percent of dry racemic beta-valerolactone with 70 mole percent racemic beta-butyrolactone. The resulting copolymer was a mixture of stereoregular and stereoirregular copolymers containing 30 mole percent beta-hydroxyvalerate as shown by NMR. The number average molecular weight of this copolymer was 20,000 as determined by GPC and the melting point was 120° C. a mixture of stereoregular and stereoirregular copolymers

Procedure: Cis-3-{4-[amino(phenyl)methyl]phenyl}-1-[4-(4-methylpiperazino)cyclohexyl]-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-amine (0.05 g, 0.0001 mol) and β-butyrolactone (0.009 g, 0.0001 mol) were heated in dioxane at reflux for three hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting residue purified by preparative HPLC (Hypersil C18, 8 μm, 25 cm; 10-60% acetonitrile-0.1M ammonium acetate over 25 min, 21 mL/min) to yield cis-N1-[(4-{4-amino-1-[4-(4-methylpiperazino)cyclohexyl]-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-3-yl}phenyl)(phenyl)methyl]-3-hydroxybutanamide acetate (0.027 g, 0.000042 mol) as a white solid. at reflux for three hours The solvent was removed under reduced pressure the resulting residue purified by preparative HPLC (Hypersil C18, 8 μm, 25 cm; 10-60% acetonitrile-0.1M ammonium acetate over 25 min, 21 mL/min)

Procedure: 86 g (1.00 mole) of β-butyrolactone was added to 162 g (1.00 mole) of 3,4-dichloroaniline, and this mixture was stirred at 110°-120° C. for 1 hour and then allowed to cool to room temperature. To the resulting reaction solution was added 1000 ml of ether. This mixture was filtered to remove any insoluble matter, and the filtrate thus obtained was extracted with 750 ml of a 2N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. This extract was acidified with 130 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid and then extracted with 1000 ml of ether. The ether layer was separated, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then evaporated to dryness. Thus, there was obtained 128 g (51.6% yield) of 3-(3,4-dichloroanilino) butyric acid in the form of pale-yellow crystals. To the resulting reaction solution This mixture was filtered to remove any insoluble matter the filtrate thus obtained was extracted with 750 ml of a 2N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide extracted with 1000 ml of ether The ether layer was separated dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate evaporated to dryness

Procedure: 86 g (1.00 mole) of β-butyrolactone was added to 146 g (1.00 mole) of 3-chloro-4-fluoroaniline, and this mixture was stirred at 80°-90° C. for 30 minutes and then allowed to cool to room temperature. Thus, there was obtained 111 g (47.9% yield) of 3-(3-chloro-4-fluoro-anilino) butyric acid in the form of pale-yellow oily matter.
