Procedure: Under conditions similar to Example 3, the reaction product of sodium metal and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol was reacted with chloromethylmethyldiethoxysilane in the presence of potassium iodide catalyst in toluene. The reaction proceeded to the desired product only to the extent of 20% with the formation of significant amounts of byproducts.
