Procedure: To a solution of 1H-pyrazol-3-ylboronic acid (156 mg, 1.4 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (242 mg, 0.21 mmol), and sodium carbonate (222 mg, 2.1 mmol) in dimethylformamide (2 ml), was added tert-butyl-2-bromobenzylcarbamate (200 mg, 0.699 mmol). The suspension was stirred at 100° C. for 2 h, cooled to room temperature, poured onto saturated sodium bicarbonate and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with saturated sodium chloride, dried with magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was passed through silica (ISCO, 0-30% ethyl acetate/hexane) to give tert-butyl 2-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)benzylcarbamate; MS (ES+) M+1 274.1 for C15H19N3O2. cooled to room temperature extracted with ethyl acetate The combined organic layers were washed with saturated sodium chloride dried with magnesium sulfate concentrated in vacuo

The combined ether extracts were washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (100 mL) and saturated aqueous sodium chloride (100 mL), dried over magnesium sulfate and filtered. The solvent was removed under vacuum to give a crude product which was purified by column chromatography on silica gel eluting with hexaneslethyl acetate (9:1) to afford 4.31 g (100%) of the product as a clear oil. 1H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl3): d 1.11 (s, 9 H), 1.41 (s, 9 H), 4.27 (d, 6 Hz, 2 H), 4.45 (m, 1 H), 4.81 (s, 2 H), 7.20-7.49 (m, 14 H), 8.72 (m, 4 H). Procedure: 3,5-Trans-N-(2-fluorobenzyl)-5-(2-tert-butoxycarbonylaminomethylphenyl)-7-chloro-1-neopentyl-2-oxo-1,2,3,5-tetrahydro-4,1-benzoxazepine-3-acetamide (1) A tetrahydrofuran (30 ml) solution of N-methyl-N-methyloxy-2-amino-5-chlorobenzamide (4.3 g) and N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-2-bromobenzylamine (3.82 g) was cooled to −78° C. To the solution was gradually added dropwise a hexane solution of n-butyl lithium (1.6 mol/L) (42 ml). To the mixture were then added water (100 ml) and acetic acid ethyl ester (100 ml). The organic layer was washed with water and dried over anhydrous MgSO4. The solvent was then distilled off. The residual oily compound was purified by means of a silica gel column chromatography to give a yellow solid product, which was recrystallized from n-hexane-isopropyl ether. The crystals were collected by filtration to afford 2-amino-2′-tert-butoxycarbonylaminomethyl-5-chlorobenzophenone (1.3 g) as a pale yellow crystalline product. The organic layer was washed with water dried over anhydrous MgSO4 The solvent was then distilled off The residual oily compound was purified by means of a silica gel column chromatography to give a yellow solid product, which was recrystallized from n-hexane-isopropyl ether The crystals were collected by filtration
