Procedure: A solution of n-BuLi (2.1 mL, 3.36 mmol, 1.6 M in hexane) was added to a solution of (4-bromophenylethynyl)trimethylsilane (0.69 mg, 2.74 mmol) in 50 mL of Et2O prechilled to -78° C. The solution was then stirred at -30° C. for 15 minutes. The solution was warmed to room temperature, stirred for 1 hour, and cooled to -30° C. A THF solution (20 mL) of 4,4'-bis(trimethylsilylethynyl)benzophenone (0.83 g, 2.19 nmol) prechilled to -30° C. was added slowly and the resulting mixture was stirred for 15 minutes. The solution was warmed to 0° C. and stirred for 2 hours. After addition of 1 mL of H2O the solution was pumped dry. The residue was chromatographed using CH2Cl2 /hexane (1:5 to 2:1) as eluent to afford tri(4-(trimethylsilylethynyl)phenyl)methanol as a colorless powder in 77% yield (0.92 q). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCL3, 25° C., TMS): 0.22 (s, 27 H, CH3), 2.72 (s, 1 h, OH), 7.13 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 6 H, C6H4), 7.38 (d, 6 H, C6H4). To a mixture of tri (4-(trimethylsilylethynyl)phenyl)methanol (0.92 g, 1.68 mmol) and KOH (0.28 g, 5.0 mmol) was added 50 mL of MeOH and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The solution was then extracted with Et2O solution was pumped dry and the residue was chromatographed using EtOAc/hexane (1:50 to 1:5) as eluent to afford tri(4-ethynylphenyl)methanol as a colorless powder in 84% yield (0.47 g). Anal. Calcd for C34H40Si3O: C 74.39, H 7.34. Found: C 74.03, H 7.28. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3, 25° C., TMS) : 2.73 (s, 1 H, OH), 3.06 (s, 3 H, ≡CH), 7.19 (d, J=8.2 Hz, 6 H, C6H4), 7.43 (d, 6 H, C6H4) ; IR (KBr, cm-1): 1018 (m, C--O), 2107 (w, C≡C); 3554 (m, O--H). prechilled to -78° C The solution was warmed to room temperature stirred for 1 hour cooled to -30° C prechilled to -30° C. was added slowly the resulting mixture was stirred for 15 minutes The solution was warmed to 0° C. stirred for 2 hours was pumped dry The residue was chromatographed

Procedure: One mole of cyanuric chloride was treated with one mole of phenylmagnesium bromide as described in Step I of Example I. The product of this reaction (2.3 g, 0.01 mole) in 25 ml of tetrahydrofuran (THF) was added slowly to a refluxing solution of the Grignard reagent prepared from 1-(trimethylsilyl)-2-(4-bromophenyl)acetylene (0.03 moles) and magnesium (0.75 g). The solution was stirred overnight, filtered, and the solvent removed. To the residue which remained was added a solution of KOH (10.0 g) in water (5 ml), anhydrous ethanol (100 ml) and dioxane (100 ml). The resulting mixture was heated for 2.5 hours at 60° C., filtered, and the solvent removed. Chromatographic separation of the resulting residue yielded a yellow solid, 6-phenyl-2,4-bis(4-ethynylphenyl)-s-triazine, which melted at approximately 215° C. with rapid polymerization. filtered the solvent removed To the residue which remained was added a solution of KOH (10.0 g) in water (5 ml), anhydrous ethanol (100 ml) and dioxane (100 ml) filtered the solvent removed Chromatographic separation of the resulting residue

Procedure: A mixture of 150 g of 97% bromo iodo benzene, 500 ml of anhydrous dimethylformamide, 100 ml of triethylamine, 50 g of trimethylsilyl acetylene, 2.1 g of copper iodide and 2.22 g of bis-(triphenylphosphine)-palladium (II) dichloride was stirred for 2 hours and then 500 ml of ice-cooled water were added. The mixture was extracted 3 times with 500 ml of ethyl acetate and the organic phase was washed with salt water, then dried over sodium sulfate, and evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain 136.542 g of a brown oil which was purified by distillation under reduced pressure to obtain 106.979 g of the expected product with a boiling point of 75-82° C. under 0.2 mbar and a melting point of 62° C. were added The mixture was extracted 3 times with 500 ml of ethyl acetate the organic phase was washed with salt water dried over sodium sulfate evaporated under reduced pressure

Procedure: 6.4 mL (10 mmol) of a 1.6 M hexane solution of butyl lithium was added to 60 mL of THF solution containing 2.54 g (10 mmol) of (4-bromo-phenylethynyl)trimethyl silane under an argon atmosphere at a temperature of −78° C. and the resultant mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. Then, 1.5 mL (10 mmol) of allylchlorodimethyl silane was added to the mixture and stirred for 10 minutes, after which the temperature of the mixture was gradually returned to room temperature and additionally stirred for two hours. After an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride was added to the mixture, the resultant solution was subjected to extraction using ether. The organic layer thus created was then washed with saturated brine and dried using magnesium sulfate as a desiccating agent. After the desiccating agent was removed by filtration, the solvent was removed by a rotary evaporator to obtain a crude product, which was then purified by silica gel column chromatography (developing solvent: hexane) to obtain 2.54 g (9.33 mmol) of 1-(allyldimethylsilanyl)-4-trimethylsilanylethynyl benzene. The yield was 93%. was gradually returned to room temperature additionally stirred for two hours the resultant solution was subjected to extraction The organic layer thus created was then washed with saturated brine dried After the desiccating agent was removed by filtration the solvent was removed by a rotary evaporator to obtain a crude product, which was then purified by silica gel column chromatography (developing solvent: hexane)
