Procedure: A solution of 0.30 g (1.3 mmol) of 1-(o-aminophenyl)-4-chloro-1-butanone hydrochloride in 3 mL of methylene chloride and 3 mL of ethylene dichloride is treated with 1.2 g (3 mmol) of 10% sodium hydroxide solution and 0.05 g (0.2 mmol) of 75% aqueous methyl tributylammonium chloride and heated to 50° C. for about 5 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the phases are separated. The aqueous layer is extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic extracts are washed with water and concentrated in vacuo to give 0.14 g (70% yield) of o-aminophenyl cyclopropyl ketone (mp 46-48° C.). The product is identified by NMR and MS analyses. Procedure: A solution of 1.78 g (0.0114 mole) of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine in 50 mL of methylene chloride is cooled to 0.5° C. in an ice bath and 1.0 mL (1.62 g, 0.114 mole) of chlorosulfonyl isocyanate then added to the solution. The resulting mixture is stirred for 30 minutes and a solution of 2.66 g o-aminophenyl cyclopropyl ketone (70% real, 0.0114) and 2.6 mL triethylamine (0.0187 mole) in 50 mL of methylene chloride then slowly added to the mixture. The resulting solution is stirred at ambient temperature overnight (18 hours). The resulting solution is stirred at ambient temperature overnight (18 hours)

Procedure: 2-Amino-4,6-dichloropyrimidine (6.15 g, 0.0375 mol) is added portionwise to a solution of chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (5.30 g, 0.0375 mol) in methylene chloride at 0° C. The resulting mixture is stirred at 0° to 2° C. for two hours and a solution of o-aminophenyl cyclopropyl ketone (6.04 g, 0.0375 mol) and triethylamine (3.8 g, 0.0406 mol) in methylene chloride is slowly added to the mixture. The resulting solution is stirred at room temperature overnight, washed with water, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to obtain the title product as a yellow solid (14.3 g, 75% real by HPLC analysis, 68% yield) which is used as a starting material for Example 2 without purification. A portion of the yellow solid is purified to yield the title product, mp 114°-116° C. The resulting solution is stirred at room temperature overnight washed with water dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate concentrated in vacuo

Procedure: To a solution of o-aminophenyl cyclopropyl ketone (7.78 g, 48.3 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran at 0° C. is added 29 mL of a 1.0M lithium aluminum hydride solution in tetrahydrofuran. The reaction mixture is stirred at 0° C. for 2 hours, warmed to and stirred at room temperature for 16 hours, quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts are dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to obtain a residue. Flash column chromatography of the residue using silica gel and 30% to 50% ethyl acetate in hexanes solutions gives the title product as a yellow solid (5.02 g, 64%, mp 76°-79° C.) which is identified by 1HNMR and MS spectral analyses. warmed to and stirred at room temperature for 16 hours quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution extracted with ethyl acetate The combined organic extracts are dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate concentrated in vacuo to obtain a residue
