Procedure: To a solution the (2-Amino-4-bromo-phenyl)-phenyl-methanone (276 mg, 1.0 mmol) and N-Cyclopropyl-3-iodo-4-methyl-benzamide (301 mg, 1.0 mmol) in 5 mL of methyl sulfoxide was added potassium carbonate (276 mg, 2.0 mmol) and followed by Pd(PPh3)4 (58 mg, 0.05 mmol). After the reaction mixture was stirred at 95° C. for 4 hours, the reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and 10 mL of water was added to the mixture. The resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL). The combined organic layers washed with water (10 mL) and brine (10 mL), dried over MgSO4, and the solvents were evaporated. The residue was purified by chromatography (hexanes:ethyl acetate=1:1) to give the desired compound as a colorless solid (180 mg, 49%). to cool to room temperature The resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL) The combined organic layers washed with water (10 mL) and brine (10 mL) dried over MgSO4 the solvents were evaporated The residue was purified by chromatography (hexanes:ethyl acetate=1:1)

Procedure: To a stirred mixture of (2-amino-4-bromophenyl)(phenyl)methanone (1.0 g, 3.6 mmol) in hydrochloric acid (6N aqueous solution, 5 mL) was added sodium nitrite (0.5 g, 7.2 mmol) over 3 min at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 30 min before a solution of tin(II) chloride (2.7 g, 14.4 mmol in 5 mL concentrated hydrochloric acid) was added at 0° C. over 5 min. After stirring at 0° C. for 10 min and rt for 1 hr, the reaction mixture was filtered. The solid was washed with water (10 mL), 4N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and water (10 mL). The solid was dissolved in dichloromethane (20 mL), washed with brine (10 mL), dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated. Silica gel flash chromatography gave 6-bromo-3-phenyl-1H-indazole (0.42 g, 1.5 mmol, 42% yield). was added at 0° C. over 5 min the reaction mixture was filtered The solid was washed with water (10 mL), 4N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, and water (10 mL) The solid was dissolved in dichloromethane (20 mL) washed with brine (10 mL) dried (Na2SO4) concentrated

Procedure: 4-Bromo-2-aminobenzophenone (0.55 g, 2.0 mmol) was dissolved in dry and deoxygenated dimethylformamide (10 ml) in an inert atmosphere box. To this was added in portions bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)nickel (O) (0.55 g, 2.0 mmol). The reaction was moved from the inert atmosphere box to a vacuum-argon manifold using standard Schlenk-wave techniques. The reaction was heated at 5°-55° C. for 4 hrs. and left at room temperature overnight. The mixture was poured into 200 ml of water which was made slightly basic with sodium hydroxide. The water was extracted several times with ethyl acetate which after drying with sodium sulfate and evaporation gave a dark brown liquid (0.48 g). Recrystallization from hexane yielded 100 mg of yellow brown solid mp 180°-185° C. in dry deoxygenated dimethylformamide (10 ml) in an inert atmosphere box The reaction was heated at 5°-55° C. for 4 hrs The water was extracted several times with ethyl acetate which after drying with sodium sulfate and evaporation
