Procedure: 8.9 g of 3-(t-butoxycarbonyl)-1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone (BCVP) was dissolved in 50 ml of tetrahydrofuran free of moisture. To this solution 1.0 g of sodium hydride and 4.4 g of 2-chlorotetrahydrofuran were added and allowed to react at room temperature for 1 hour. This solution was diluted with diethylether and washed many times with pure water. The organic solvent of the organic phase was evaporated and the residue was subjected to silica gel column chromatography, to obtain 9.3 g of pure 3-(tetrahydrofuranyloxycarbonyl)-1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone (hereinafter referred to as "TFVP"). Its chemical structure was determined by IR spectra and NMR. to react at room temperature for 1 hour washed many times with pure water The organic solvent of the organic phase was evaporated

Procedure: 5.92 Grams of 2'-deoxy-5-trifluoromethyluridine was dissolved in 40 ml of dry dimethylacetamide. Thereto was added 2.23 g of triethylamine and the mixture was ice-cooled. Thereto was added dropwise a dry dimethylacetamide solution containing 2.34 g of 2-chlorotetrahydrofuran prepared just prior to use, and the mixture was stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was subjected to filtration and the resulting filtrate was subjected to evaporation. The residue was extracted with chloroform and the extract was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent in the extract was removed by evaporation to obtain an oily residue. The residue was treated by a silica gel column chromatography (developing solvent: chloroform/ethanol=20/1). The eluate was recrystallized from ethanol-petroleum ether to obtain 2.80 g of the desired product. Melting point: 127°-128° C. cooled prepared just The reaction mixture was subjected to filtration the resulting filtrate was subjected to evaporation The residue was extracted with chloroform the extract was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate The solvent in the extract was removed by evaporation to obtain an oily residue The eluate was recrystallized from ethanol-petroleum ether

Procedure: To a stirred solution of 1.8 g (0.005 mole) of 4,5-diphenyl-2-(1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethylthio)imidazole and 5 g (0.05 mole) triethylamine in 20 ml tetrahydrofuran, was added dropwise at room temperature a solution of 2-chlorotetrahydrofuran, which had been prepared by adding 2.4 g (0.018 mole) of sulfuryl chloride to 30 ml tetrahydrofuran and waiting until the exothermic reaction mixture had returned to room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for four days, then poured into ice water containing excess sodium bicarbonate. The aqueous mixture was extracted with methylene chloride, which was dried and concentrated. The crystalline residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel, eluting with toluene, to give 1.6 g of product, mp 145°-6° (from methylcyclohexane). had been prepared waiting until the exothermic reaction mixture had returned to room temperature The aqueous mixture was extracted with methylene chloride, which was dried concentrated The crystalline residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel eluting with toluene
