Procedure: To a mixture of 1-(1-bromo-2-naphthyl)ethanone (0.488 g, 1.96 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was added sodium tetrahydroborate (0.0741 g, 1.96 mmol). The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, quenched with water, extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. The residue was used directly in next step (467 mg, 94%). LCMS calculated for C12H10Br(M−OH)+: m/z=233.0; found: 233.2. quenched with water extracted with ethyl acetate The combined organic layers were washed with brine dried over magnesium sulfate concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure
