Procedure: To 4-iodo-6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-7-one (8.00 g, 31.7 mmol) in benzene (100 ml) was added 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (7.9 g, 32 mmol) under nitrogen, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 6 h. The white precipitate was filtered off from the cooled solution and washed with ether (100 ml). The combined filtrates were washed with water (50 ml), 1N HCl (50 ml), and brine (25 ml), and then dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvents were removed by rotary evaporation to afford the alkene as a light brown oil (2.6 g, 66%). the mixture was heated under reflux for 6 h The white precipitate was filtered off from the cooled solution washed with ether (100 ml) The combined filtrates were washed with water (50 ml), 1N HCl (50 ml), and brine (25 ml) dried over magnesium sulfate The solvents were removed by rotary evaporation

Procedure: To a suspension of Racemate-4-iodo-6-oxa-bicyclo[3.2.1]octan-7-one (45.0 g, 180 mmol) in ethanol (400 mL) was added 2 N aqueous sodium hydroxide (110 mL, 220 mmol) at room temperature while being stirred, and the resulting mixture was stirred for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated in a bath at a temperature of 35° C. under reduced pressure. Water (500 mL) was added to the resultant oily matter, and the resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (500 mL). The organic layer was washed with water (500 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and followed by concentration under reduced pressure. The resultant oily matter was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:petroleum ether=1:10˜1:5), to thereby give the tile compound (15.9 g, 52%) as a pale yellow oil. the resulting mixture was stirred for 3 hours The reaction mixture was concentrated in a bath at a temperature of 35° C. under reduced pressure Water (500 mL) was added to the resultant oily matter the resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (500 mL) The organic layer was washed with water (500 mL) dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate filtered followed by concentration under reduced pressure The resultant oily matter was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:petroleum ether=1:10˜1:5)

Procedure: To a mixture of cyclohex-3-enecarboxylic acid (racemate, 42.0 g, 333 mmol), potassium iodide (72.0 g, 433 mmol) and sodium hydrogencarbonate (36.4 g, 433 mmol) in methylene chloride (750 mL) and water (750 mL) was added iodine (110.0 g, 433 mmol) at an internal temperature of 5° C., and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. After quenched with 1 N aqueous sodium thiosulfate (1500 mL), the resulting mixture was extracted with methylene chloride (1000 mL×2). The combined organic layers were washed with aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate (1000 mL), water (2000 mL) and brine (1000 mL), dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, then concentrated under reduced pressure. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration and washed with hexane, followed by drying, to thereby give the title compound (80.2 g, 95%) as a white solid.
